Our time in Delray Beach was definitely over far too quickly. That Monday was our last day, and we committed ourselves to waking up early (7:30am, but hey, that’s early for vacation) and getting to the beach to beat the heat.
Sitting on the beach with Matt that morning was such a peaceful, soothing experience. It felt like we didn’t have a worry in the world. There was no dreading of returning to real life; to jobs, to bills, to errands. All that existed was me, Matt, and the ocean.
Unfortunately, my bladder did not enjoy the same peaceful state, and we had to cut our beach visit a bit shorter to find me a bathroom. But that morning was one of my favorite moments of the trip.
Getting home did prove to be a bit more difficult than we expected (flight was cancelled, rescheduled to the next day, rerouted to LaGuardia instead of JFK… the usual), but we made it home without a hitch.
Making the transition back to real life is never easy, but I wouldn’t trade anything for those days in Delray Beach with Matt. They are undoubtedly days I will remember for the rest of my life as some of the happiest days I’ve ever experienced.
