Fort Tryon Park NYC Engagement

New York, New York

|

A warm, summer evening engagement session with Kendall, Mitchell, and their adorable mini dachshund, Winnie (obviously the star of the photos), at Fort Tryon Park! Funny enough, despite seeing so many engagement sessions at Fort Tryon I had never actually been there — and it did not disappoint! From the beautiful gardens to the stunning architecture, this park truly is a hidden gem amongst the hustle and bustle of the city.

Kendall and Mitchel first met in college and were best friends for six years before they started dating in 2020. As Kendall tells it, “We met in 2016 during our sophomore year at Marymount Manhattan College, and went on to become best friends for the rest of college and beyond. We both were musical theater majors and really got close in a performance class we had together junior year (we one time had to do a scene together from Shrek the Musical where we were Shrek and Fiona LOL). When we graduated college, we both worked at a children’s birthday party center on the Upper East Side and became even closer. Mitchell always had a crush on me, and told me multiple times, but I just wanted to be friends. We used to go on “friend dates” all the time, just the two of us, to things like trivia, the movies, Broadway shows, and more.”

“A few months later, Mitchell left the city to go on a national tour and work at theaters all over the country, but we always stayed friends. During the pandemic, we really reconnected and started talking and FaceTiming almost daily. Mitchell was quarantined in Minnesota with his parents, and I was in the city living with our mutual best friends, Matt and Jaime. In October 2020, Matt, Jaime and I traveled to Minnesota to pick up Mitchell and bring him back to the city to join our quarantine bubble. When we saw each other for the first time, it was pretty much a done deal! We became inseparable, spending truly every minute together, and starting officially dating in November 2020! Once we decided to be more than just friends, we knew we’d spend the rest of our lives together.”

Mitchell officially popped the question this past March! “Mitchell left in the morning for “work” and surprised me with my childhood best friends who came over with a note from him letting me know that today was the special day. They helped me get ready, and then I went down to Pier 25 where Mitchell was waiting and proposed on the water! All of our friends and family were waiting for us afterwards. It was the best day ever!”

Kendall’s ring is GORGEOUS. “My ring is from East West Gem Co and is a round solitaire stone on a yellow gold band with six prongs, a hidden halo, and pave bridge. It’s truly the ring of my dreams! I had been a fan of the company for a while, but until very recently they were only based in Charleston, SC. Luckily my brother lives there and got married there last year, so when we were in town, we got to go to the store together and try on rings. All of their rings are custom, so I got to try on a bunch for style and then we designed it together. Luckily for Mitchell, they just opened a store front here in the city, so he was able to get there this winter.”

Together these two live in Hudson Heights, a sub-neighborhood in Washington Heights in upper Manhattan, and have been living in the city for over ten years now. In their spare time, Kendall and Mitchell love to travel, eat good food (they’re both total foodies, and Mitchell is an amazing cook), see Broadway shows, sing, dance, laugh, go on long walks with Winnie, and have the occasional day of doing absolutely nothing together! I am so excited for their August 2025 wedding at Liberty House, it’s going to be an incredible day!
